Our Campaigns |

Mid Dorset and North Poole Conservatives are working hard on a number of local issues:
A Fair Deal for Dorset: Dorset’s councils receive some of the lowest grant settlements in the country. Yet we are the subject of some of the greatest development pressure brought about by the unelected regional assembly. Mid Dorset and North Poole Conservatives are campaigning for a Fair Deal for Dorset and repatriation of development control to our local communities. Saving the Green Belt around Corfe Mullen and Lytchett Minster is a priority. Encouraging the development of affordable housing for local people on brownfield sites in our towns and villages and ensuring that developments are not environmentally intrusive. Campaigning for improved transport links throughout our area. We urgently need improvements to the A31 and A35 in preparation for the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. Local bus services require additional funding and should be made a priority once a fair funding formula is found for Dorset. Mid Dorset and North Poole Conservatives are also campaigning for a light rail system linked to commuter buses; for public/private partnerships to make our park and ride systems work and for increased use of car sharing schemes throughout the conurbation. Development of our local economy is vital. We are campaigning for support for business in Mid Dorset and North Poole, particularly micro businesses in our rural areas and small and medium enterprises in our towns. Rural post offices and libraries are a vital part of our communities. We are supporting the online petition set up to Save Dorset Post Offices. Please click on the link on the left to connect to that site and sign the petition asking the government to support rather than close our remaining sub post offices. Mid Dorset and North Poole Conservatives not only oppose any post office closures but are also committed to opposing closure of the libraries at Lytchett Matravers, Colehill and Corfe Mullen. Mid Dorset and North Poole Conservatives oppose gravel extraction in the Piddle Valley and are campaigning against any resumption of these operations.
